Each of my books includes a deeply personal character arc related to my own journey in life. Who’s that little pirate with social anxiety? That's me. Who’s that mythical creature struggling with father issues? That's me too.

True story: I spent my childhood on an island in the middle of nowhere. It was a very isolated place, and exploring my imagination was my only escape. When I grew up, I moved to the city of Toronto, full of anxiety and the urge to write down all my experiences.

But as I began to write, strange creatures kept popping up in my stories: vampires and holograms and talking animals. Soon, my life story only made sense when my friends were sea monsters and my parents were cyborgs.

 

Over the years, I've written more than twenty novels, and it's finally time to publish some of them. Don't worry, I'll do that soon. Right after I babysit this tiny dragon and chase this werewolf out of my backyard …
